We offer 30 minutes free legal consultation.
After the first 30 minutes, 5500 yen ( in case of zoom meeting) or 6600 yen (in case of in-person meeting) will be charged for every 30 minutes.
Assets research in Japan
Oftentimes it is difficult to find decedent’s assets in Japan. Based on provided information, we will research whether the decedent owns real estate as a title holder, whether the decedent has bank accounts, and whether the decedent has accounts in securities companies. The more detailed information is provided, the better chances we have for finding assets.
Approximate attorney fee: 110,000 yen to 330,000 yen depending on the case.
Proving heirship
Japan does not have vital records system but has family register system called Koseki Instead. In order to prove heirship, a series of family registers should be collected. We will search and collect necessary family registers instead of clients. Normally 5~10 Koseki are needed but it can be more depending on the case.
Approximate attorney fee: 4400 yen per one Koseki, including making a family tree.
Dealing with Japanese inheritance procedure
In case there is no will, Japanese inheritance procedure should be based on mutual agreement between heirs. Without the agreement, you may not even withdraw deposits from bank accounts. We will contact other heirs in Japan on behalf of clients, and negotiate with them until reaches an agreement. If needed, we will bring the case to court (conciliation / adjudication).
Approximate attorney fee:
330,000 yen to 550,000 yen as initial fee
11% of the amount you inherit as success fee (*550,000 yen is minimum)
Support executing a will
Usually an executor is assigned in a will, but not all the executor is familiar with Japanese inheritance procedure. We are willing to support the Japanese part of the execution.
Approximate attorney fee: 2.2% + 264,000 yen of the amount of the estate located in Japan.
Estate planning
Estate planning is necessary for everyone. Especially in case of international inheritance, the cost and time for inheritance procedure can be tremendously reduced by proper estate planning. We provide legal counseling in order to achieve tax-wise and easy-to-distribute estate planning, and make a Japanese will as part of overall scheme.
Approximate attorney fee: 33,000 yen per hour.
Attorney Fee
Since the issues and required works varies widely depending on each case, we basically offer hourly charge, which is 33000 Japanese yen per hour. In order to get overall picture of the case and provide a detailed estimate, we provide 30 minutes initial free legal consultation.
